What are the different membership plans Audible offers?

Based on your personal listening preferences, Audible currently offers several different membership options. Regardless of which one you choose, there are several membership benefits that you receive:

How can I purchase a gift membership from Audible?

You can view the three different types of gift membership plans to select from. Here are some quick steps to purchase a gift membership:

  1. Go to the Gift Centre on the Audible desktop site.
  2. Select which gift membership you would like to give.
  3. Click Give as a Gift.

  4. A gift purchase window will appear where you can customise your gift by writing a personal note.
  5. Next you can choose your delivery option.

    • Send Email On: The gift will be sent by e-mail on a set delivery date you choose.
    • Print It Out: You can print a claim code and give it in person.

  6. Click Preview.

    Note:If you are unhappy with the preview, you can click edit to go back and change the gift. If you want to cancel the gift completely you can click Cancel.

  7. Click Add to Cart.

    Your gift membership will now be added to your shopping basket. You can complete the transaction just like any other purchase on Audible.

Can my membership be placed on hold?

Audible annual memberships cannot put their accounts on a monthly hold.

Monthly Audible membership plans can be placed on hold once every 12 months for a duration of up to three months. During this time you will not be billed your monthly membership fee. To place your account on hold, please contact Customer Care.

You will still have access to many of your benefits while on hold such as:

  • Access to any unused credits
  • Advanced notice of sales and promotions

What happens to my purchased audiobooks if I cancel my membership?

Your Audible/Amazon account remains active regardless of your membership status. Therefore, any previously purchased content will still be yours! You can log in and access your online library from either the Audible desktop site or any of our mobile applications.

How can I buy more credits?

If you find yourself running out of credits too quickly, you can switch your membership plan to one that includes more credits, or occasionally purchase extra credits online.

To be eligible and see the option to buy extra credits online, you must:

  • Be an active Audible member and be on the same membership plan for at least three months
  • Have one or no remaining credits on your account
  • Must be at least 30 days from your next billing date (ANNUAL PLANS ONLY)

If you fit that criteria, follow the steps below to buy your credits on the desktop or mobile sites:

How can I use iTunes to listen to my Audible audiobooks?

Listening to Audible audiobooks with iTunes is easy! To get started:

  1. Download your audiobooks to your computer from your Library page on the Audible desktop site.
  2. Launch iTunes
  3. Click the Book icon in the top left corner of the iTunes window
    Note: You may need to click the ellipsis (…) menu to locate the Book icon

  4. Click My audiobooks
  5. Double-click on the cover art of the audiobook you wish to hear to begin playbackiTunes, play, playback, listen to audiobook, play audiobook,play book

    • The Play arrow initiates playback. It will turn into the Pause icon while listening so you can pause the audiobook at any time.
    • Clicking on Chapters will allow you to jump forward or back in the audiobook based on where each chapter begins.

    • Note: Depending upon whether you are using a PC or Mac, the Chapters option may be located at the top of your computer screen.

    • Clicking and dragging the scrubber bar allows you to move to a specific point in the audio.

    • iTunes will set your default view as aaudiobooks - meaning, you will see the cover art for the imported Audible audiobooks. However, this menu allows you to change how you view your audiobooks, including how they are sorted.

    • To remove an Audible audiobook from iTunes, right-click the title in question and select Delete. This will also remove the title from any Apple devices that sync with this library.

How can I find my audiobooks on my iOS device?

Your audiobook purchases are located under the Cloud tab in your library in the Audible app. If you experience problems finding a recently-made purchase, it may be because of one of the following reasons:

Refreshing your application:

  1. Open the Audible application.
  2. Tap the Gear icon gear icon, gear, iconon the screen if your app has a gear. If no gear is present, tap More more, more options, options, settingat the bottom of the screen, followed by Settings.
  3. Tap Refresh Library.

    If you have a gear icon in your app, your audiobook(s) should now appear under the Cloud tab by tapping My Library my library, library, cloud, device followed by Cloud cloud, device

  4. If you've tapped More, tap Settings.
  5. Tap Refresh Library.
  6. Tap My Library my library, library, bottom of screenat the bottom of the screen.
  7. Tap Cloud cloud, device.

Your title should appear at the top of the screen with a download, download audiobook at the lower right corner of the audiobook.

Signing in to the correct account:

  1. Open the Audible application.
  2. Tap the Gear icon gear icon, more, gear, iconon the screen if your app has a gear. If no gear is present, tap More more, options, bottom of screen, more options

  1. Open the Audible application.

In the Audible apps, you can filter or sort your library in the Cloud or Device tabs. Your audiobook may not be showing up because you have selected a specific filter, or are sorting your content in a certain way.

How can I download and listen to audiobooks on my iOS device?

The Audible for iOS app allows you to download, rate, and listen to purchased Audible audiobooks as well as add titles to your wish list to purchase later. Below you find instructions on how to download and listen to your content.

Download

Before listening, you must download your audiobook. Purchased content can be found in the "Cloud" tab. Follow the steps below to begin downloading.

  1. Open the Audible app by tapping the download, listen, listening, downloading, getting started, how to, how-to, using the app, player screen, on your screen and sign in.
  2. Tap the Cloud tab at the top of the screen.

  3. Tap the title you want to hear. For audiobooks broken into multiple parts, tap the name of the title first, and then tap the part.

  4. You can listen to your audiobook as it downloads by tapping Ready to play.
  5. Once the download is complete, tap on the audiobook to begin listening.

    Tip: You can cancel your download by tapping the X icon next to the audiobook you are downloading.

    For information on joining or troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks, please visit Apple's Support pages.

Note:In order to download an audiobook, you will need to have a stable Wi-Fi or Cellular data connection. Once the audiobook is download you will be able to listen regardless of internet connection. If your download stopped because of a connection issue, tap on it again to resume downloading once a connection is available.

After you have downloaded your audiobook, follow the steps below to begin listening

Audible audiobooks downloaded from the Cloud will be located on the Device tab of My Library. Audiobooks synced to your device using iTunes on your computer can be found on the iTunes tab. Simply tap the audiobook to begin listening.

Can I still purchase audiobooks after I cancel my membership?

Yes! You do not need an Audible membership to purchase audiobooks through either the Audible or Amazon web sites. However, you will be paying full retail price for the audiobooks, as opposed to using Audible membership benefits, such as:

  • Monthly or annual credits that can be redeemed for any single-volume audiobook on our Web site
  • The Great Listen Guarantee return policy
  • Advanced notice of exclusive sales and member-only promotions

Can I exchange one audiobook for another?

Audiobooks purchased in error, or those you are dissatisfied with after listening, can be returned as opposed to exchanged. When returning an audiobook, you will be issued a refund in the same form of payment initially used. For example, if you accidentally purchased a book that cost £5.00, you can return that item and receive £5.00 back.

How can I download an audiobook to a Windows computer?

In order to download your audiobook to your Windows computer, you will need to download Audible Download Manager and configure it to import your audiobooks to iTunes, Windows Media Player, or the AudibleManager player. Below are instructions on configuring Audible Download Manager to get started downloading:

Tip: For customers using Windows 10, it is highly recommended to download the free Audible app to download and listen to your audiobooks instead of downloading Audible Download Manager software. The audible app includes many additional features not available using the method provided below. Some features include:

  • Saving clips of your favorite passages to share with friends and on social media.
  • Voice commands via Cortana - the Windows built-in voice-acivated digital assistant
  • Streaming over Wi-Fi
  • Whispersync for Voice: audiobooks that are compatible with Amazon eBooks can be paired together to read and listen simultaneously.
  • If you are using multiple devices, the Audible app allows you to sync your audio listening across all your app-enabled devices

Downloading using Audible Download Manager:

  1. After configuring your computer using one of the methods above, go to your Library Page on the desktop site.
  2. Click Download next to the audiobook you want to download to your computer.

Audible Download Manager will open automatically and display the download progress of the audiobook. After downloading your audiobook, it will be playable in the player you chose to import the file to.

Where is the Give as a Gift option?

You can still share the Audible experience with your friends using our gift membership, no strings attached. Gift membership recipients can choose any Audible title they like, but you are welcome to share personal recommendations as part of your gift. Using the Send This Book feature, you can give a specific book in your library to friends and family. If it is your recipient's first time accepting an audiobook through this feature, it will be free for her/him.

How do I sign up for the Daily Deal?

The Daily Deal is a special sale for all customers (even non-members!) where one audiobook a day is discounted. The audiobook changes every day, but you can keep track of the day's deal by subscribing to the Daily Deal newsletter!

Note:These steps can only be completed on the Audible desktop site.

  1. Go to your Account Details page on the Audible desktop site. You may need to sign in after clicking the link above.
  2. Click Manage Daily Deal Email Subscription under Preferences.

  5. Note:Your first Daily Deal Email will arrive 48 hours after subscribing. You can unsubscribe at any time from the Manage Daily Deal Email Subscription page in your Account Details and clicking Unsubscribe.

Why won't my audiobooks play on my Alexa device?

If your audiobooks are not playing on your Echo or Tap, check your device for the following:

  • Confirm the device is powered on. For the Echos', the device must be plugged in. The Tap must be charged or connected to a charger. A blue light will display when any of the devices are on.
  • For the Echos', use your wake word to ensure the device hasn't gone into sleep mode. For the Tap, press the microphone button and issue a command.
  • Open your Amazon Alexa companion app. If there is a connection issue, your app may display an error message stating the device is not connected.
  • It is important to note that customers who sign into Audible using a username (e.g. John123) would need to merge that account to their Amazon account in order to be able to listen to their audiobooks on an Alexa device. The Echos' and Tap do not support Audible username accounts.
